Questions to Ask During an Interview

Asking questions about the role is important to understand not only the workings of the department, but also what expectations would be placed on you.

-Why is the position open?
-Why did the last person leave?
-What are my primary challenges?
-How are evaluations done? (and how often)
-What are some short-term/long-term goals for the person you bring in?
-What is a typical career path for this position?
-What are the goals of the department?
-How would you describe your management style?

You should also get an understanding of the company, culture and working environment.

-What are the company's plans for future growth?
-What are the company's strengths and weaknesses?
-Does the company promote from within?
-What are the company's strengths and weaknesses?

Do not ask any of the following.

-Anything that is already answered in the company's literature or web site.
-What will my salary be?
-What are the company's benefits packages?
